Funky

When I was in college, I used to talk about "Leonard Cohen therapy". Where nothing in my life felt nearly as depressing as the songs of Leonard Cohen.

Sometime in ... 1992 or 1993, I had Nick Cave Weeping Song therapy: listen to that enough times in a row and you can't help but start to giggle.

So tonight I'll try "Something Therapy" -- I want this favorite song back.

Still crying .. but maybe more about how beautiful ukelele is even though Paul is kind of my least favorite Beatle? Because this is so beautiful when it transition to Clapton, and I even love his singing here?

Too funky for tears.

Frank can't convince me he gives a hoot about her, he's such a misogynist.
He steals all the weepy power from this song and adds fruity harp. It does not make me cry in any way.

I still appreciate the

I don't know.
and the added
You stick around Jack.

Hey Elvis, I'm taking vicodin right now too!
I love you but you're sucking the passion out of this song just like Frank does.
Good for "Something Therapy" but for most days, your version won't work.

Nice jumpsuit though.

Little Joe

I've already shared my August 16, 1987 story and revealed that my All-Time Elvis favorites are In the Ghetto and Suspicious Minds.

The only left for me to do today is eat a PB and Banana sandwich for lunch, listen to all the Elvis I own and fill in gaps with internet downloads, and share this video where, far exceeding the expectations set up in the lyrics, Little Joe not only blows on the slide trombone, he does it while hanging upside down and pole dancing.

I also just spent the last 30 minutes browsing through Elvis T-Shirts and commemorative junk.

January 8

August 16th is the Elvis date that jumps most readily to mind for me, but today is a big one: 75. I may need to celebrate tonight with a grilled PB and banana which *is* pretty darn good if you haven't tried it. I like my banana sliced rather than mashed. I do remember when Elvis died, though my parents were not big fans. My mother didn't cry, I don't know that she had any comment at all. That would have been the year my parents were getting a divorce and I think she had bigger and more personal sad things on her mind. But I remember the news coverage and all the crying women on TV, waving their pictures of Elvis. I thought they were crazy.

Ten years later, I was working at a thrift store on Gratiot called Value Village. The radio station we listened to at work was playing "All Elvis, All Day, No Interruptions." The customers loved it. They pop in for 30 minutes, buy a few tube tops and broken lamps, and leave. I was there for nine hours and just about went crazy. Elvis has some great stuff but he also has some real smarmy stinkers.

In The Ghetto and Suspicious Minds are my two of my favorites.

That one has some great dancing and audience kissing but I'm not so sure about the "shove it up your nose!"

Why don't I have a commemorative Elvis plate? I think I saw Channel 50 advertisements for those pretty much every day of my life between the ages of 7 and 10. I would love to have one now.

Bringing it On

Elvis, meet Freddie.
Freddie .... Oh, you already know Elvis? I should have guessed.

Many of your jumpsuits are white so let's keep this fight clean, gentlemen.
